Real-life adventure in Port Douglas

  • Iconic Lady Douglas river cruise – The relaxing river cruise includes crocodile and wildlife spotting in their natural habitat and an informative and entertaining commentary on the history of Port Douglas. There are beautiful locations that are only accessible through boats like the stunning scenery of mangroves, wilderness, and shipwrecks.
  • Bump Track – This is a historic track that goes up the mountains at the back of the Mowbray Valley. Originally, Bump Track was an aboriginal trail that linked the early settlers to the hinterland. There are a few steep paths but generally, it is a wide clear track under the canopy cover of the forest. You can either run or cycle up and down or ride a horse like the early settlers.
  • Cane Toad races – The races take place at the Iron Bar, a bar and restaurant at Macrossan St. in Port Douglas. There is a kid’s show and an adult’s only show. Do not miss the race because it is fun, entertaining, and educational. Don’t worry, the toads are not harmed because the races have been cleared by RSPCA.
  • Water sports and other activities – At the Four Mile Beach, you can get started on stand-up paddle boarding, kite surfing, and wind surfing. There are plenty of locals around who are willing to teach you. The shallow waters and wide-open beaches make Four Mile Beach the perfect place for beginners.
  • Rainforest river drift snorkelling – It is only a short drive to the beautiful Mossman River where you can experience snorkelling. There are guides who have everything prepared from the wetsuits, snorkels, and safety equipment. You only need to bring your own towel and camera to record your adventure. At the Mossman River, there are 30 different species of fishes and you can spot some lizards, turtles, birds, and the elusive platypus.
  • Atherton Tablelands – The ideal time of the year to visit Atherton Tablelands is between December and April when the climate is comfortable and free from any coastal humidity. There are natural and man-made tourist attractions like wineries, coffee and chocolate attractions, dairies, Hastie Swamp, Crystal Caves, Mt. Mulligan Escarpment, and Lake Tinaroo.
  • Port Douglas Carnivale – The annual carnivale is held in May each year. Aside from the traditional street parade, there are different festivities and dining events like the Seafood Festival. You will get your fill of food, music, drinks, and fun in an open-air setting.
